Buying a cheap tablet
So I was looking for a cheap tablet that would let me read ebook and manga with wifi and 3g or at least would help me with my website work. Everyone seems to be pointing towards Ipad or Samsung’s tab, which costed more than 1k. For a while I did consider both tablets till I met a certain contender from China.
China tablet! Once we heard the word China brand we would obviously think of crappy products that wont last few weeks and with no customer support. That might be the case but these day China too produces gadget that has comparable quality with Samsung and Apple products, beside those two brands too assembled their product in China.
China tabs these days comes with IPS panel starting from 7 inch to the largest 10.2 inch they actually perform quite well and sturdy . Most of them comes with android os and some with windows . Most known brand is Ainol Novo, Onda,Ployer MOMO and Zenithink.
When I order it my expectation stereotype it as a china product thinking it would probably lags a lot, hangs a lot and the screen would look horrible and nope, not even one of my expectation come true.
Surprise surprise the tablet is fast and smooth. Opening apps doesn’t take long much like few seconds only , this is most proably due to Cortex A9 1GHZ, ICS 4.0 and 1GB Ram that it comes with.
With HD resolution 1200 x 600 the screen looks really good and watching 720p is like having a mini 32″ FULL HD lcd tv. Although in bright lights your reflection could clearly be seen on display, turning brightness to level 3 could fix that. I can still read ebooks clearly with brightness level 1 so it shouldn’t bother you much.
Reading with this tab is fun
With 1200×600 resolution it’s certainly a bit weird to hold it vertical way. I spend my time holding it horizontal but sometimes reading magazine is better vertically. The tab is a bit heavy at 725g . Camera is said to be 2mp but from the quality it looks like 1.3mp instead. That’s a given as I too don’t expect much from China made camera.
Likewise if you want more battery hours you should disable some functions and background application . Which means no moving background themes and too flashy menu themes. Of course the battery still doesn’t last as long as Ipad either way. I am currently using Novo Launcher with all settings like flicking , slide are On but didn’t notice any significant battery leakage.
Someone told me that if you choose Android there will be less software available than a certain tablet brand. With all do respect when I search MKV player on Google market, there are at least 30 types available and only few of them are payable. When I search for Codecs, there were more than 30 types available. And if you’re into light games there are more than hundreds of free game on android market.
You could also play swf ( flash file ) on android using swf player, so it won’t be a problem if you had bunchs of FLV downloaded from YouTube. Of course YouTube player is available on android too..
I think it’s a given when we think of tablet, we would think of drawing on tablet. It’s not impossible as there are bunch of sketching software on Google Market for free. So to me lack of software on Android is not of concern.
C91 supported HDMI output which means you can connect it to your 40″ LCD TV and still use both screen to watch movies. Or perhaps you could use your 40″ tv as your tablet display. Whichever suits you best.
Been using it for a month now and had no problem yet and I hope it stays that way. This is what I call value for money
