How to top up Paypal using Cimb Clicks directly
Paypal has allow us to top up / transfer money directly from local bank into paypal. The method of topping up is same for every bank and this guide i’m making can be use by users of other local banks as well. What do you need to be able to use this option ;
- 1. A paypal account that has already been activated
- 2. Online bank account such as Cimb Clicks, RHB , Bank Islam, Pbe bank , maybank2u, hong leong online.
- 3. Enable pop up browser in your browser. In firefox that will be in tools-option-content- untick disable pop up . You may not be able to complete this transaction if you did not disable block pop-up browser.
1. Logon Paypal and choose top up and pick RHB if you’re using RHB bank , if not choose Other Bank. Other bank than RHB will be charge RM2 per transaction.
2. Input amount of money you wish to top up. Make sure you choose USD, if you accidently pick MYR or other currency, you may not be able to use the amount of money you top up later. This is because most transaction with merchants is in USD.
3. A window will pop-up asking which bank would you be topping your paypal with. In this guide we’ll be using Cimb Clicks.
4. The next window will open your bank login webpage. Login your online bank as usual and request TAC. After that click submit and wait for it to process. Do print or save screenshot of the receipt of your transaction. FPX window from before will show that transaction has been approved. Click next and paypal will update your top-up.
5. When you check your balance, you will see the amount of money has been updated.
After topping up paypal using cimb clicks, I checked in my Paypal profile – Add/ Edit Bank account and saw my CIMB Bank account has been added as my primary bank. Upon checking what the status means, paypal explain;
By the looks of it, we Malaysian might be able to activate our Paypal just by adding local bank account. No more credit cards, probably.
I tried doing this, but I keep getting stuck at Step no. 4, where you log in to your bank. It keep saying Invalid Password Length. But when I try to log in to my CIMB Clicks account in a different tab it works fine. What’s the problem?
that’s odd.. are you sure the site you’re opening is the real paypal site?
I believe it is the right website. I log on to paypal.com as usual. Clicked “Top-Up” like you said. BTW how to check whether the site im on was a phishing site?
However, I was able to do it using my maybank2u account. Its just that I don’t have money in that account. That is why I wanted to use my CIMB account. Do you think the problem is with CIMB?
no i think the problem is with FPX instead.
however you should try contacting cimb and ask them. my last topup was before you msg here and it went well.
did you try again after that? just in case, what browser u’re using ?
Just tried it. still can’t. I’m using google chrome btw.
I don’t think it’s related but have you tried using other browser? because when i use chrome with cimb clicks, it would open a popup warning of pishing site whenever i clicked logon. With firefox it doesn’t. and all my paypal transaction was on firefox.
im using google chrome also and it goes well. try check your paypal url. it should start with https:// instead of http:// and look for the green lock icon at the beginning of the url bar. and u’re good to go. sometimes, as i experienced, the lock icon has a red ‘x’ mark which i halt the transaction and refresh the page again. if it’s not working, i think u can try internet explorer. just helpin.

i make a mistake with paypal setup (i think). before i assign my primary acc and primary email, i already transfer/topup paypal using my maybank. now, after a few hours, my paypal still don’t have any funds in it (but my maybank acc already deduct the money) and i don’t know what to do. my experience when using online banking is the funds will transfer on the dot after completed transaction. so, i need opinions here. thank you.
call maybank support and check with them what happened to the transaction. If that didn’t help you can call paypal malaysia
maybe due to some maintenance delay.
already call (paypal and RHB). RHB said that my money is in between. hehe.. actually, they will bounce back my fund to my maybank. thank you for your suggestion.
yep it will bounce back to your account if there’s error.
However that might take some time…

Just wanna share.. it seems like there’s no need to use DC or CC to establish 2-way process within paypal now. I also noticed that after I link my CIMB account with my paypal account, I can use that account to transfer money from paypal -> cimb and also of course, to top-up paypal using cimb account.
Anyway, cimb debit card is a must-have, for other purpose. haha
hi .. thanks for sharing. I thought the same and so i tried removing my dc/cc and fail to sent any payment [paypal-paypal] after that. Looks like we still need to activate with cc/dc
Hai nak tanya. Sy ada topup paypal pakai cimbclicks. Tapi dah klik refund balik untuk topup tu. Lepas tu, paypal balance dah ditolak, tapi balance dalam akaunn bank masih takde.
kena tggu dlm sminggu waktu berkerja
That was weird. I did manage to topup my paypal through this but I didn’t see my bank account as primary in the profile page. Does this take time or something? The limit issue is bothering me so much since I do monthly transaction for quite some time already ( not to mention steam as well!)

It was from CIMB. I’m not sure maybe because of minor different on name or something. Perhaps I should go make my own debit card instead :sigh:
yup that could be the reason. if paypal name and bank acc name is not same , i don’t think they will add it as primary. Or you could try contacting paypal and ask them.

ur the guy from lolyat right? maybe this is jst temporary, maybe not. u may call paypal and ask them when will it be available or just contact cimb at twitter or fb
I’m having the same problem as well, couldn’t top up with public bank. Also do you have any idea why I can’t make monthly recurring payment anymore with my public bank visa debit card (I could, it stopped working few months ago) but I’m still able to make one time payment with it.
I emailed paypal and they couldn’t find any problem on their end and told me to check with the bank but the bank told me there is nothing wrong with the card. So I just have to use the top up function for recurring payments and it is not working now, this is so frustrating.
hmm i’m thinking that problem is on paypal side since u’re using debit card. Could be that recurring payment is unable to begin with but u happen to pass by a glitch?
can’t really say . i think u should contact paypal again and told them what ur bank said and ask them to do a full check up on why u no longer could do those transaction.
who knows maybe they missed something.
Thanks for the quick reply. I called them again and they said it’s the bank problem, called the bank, bank said there is no problem and should be PayPal’s problem…
Is there any other way to transfer money to Paypal account? (aside from applying for RHB..)
I have two things in mind right now for yr problem.
1. could it be that there’s not enough fund after conversion in ur card ? with the rate changing and what not.
2. u’re using another payment processor that is using paypal as it’s main gateway. For example like Plimus ,Clickbank, google cart or maybe like Steam client. If those company block your card that might be what’s causing the problem. since u did say u’re still able to make one time payment.
In steam or PSN for example if they see too much activity on the same card for different account, this could happen too.

There’s enough fund and it was individual merchant using PayPal. I have given up to find out what’s wrong and I guess I’ll just have to apply for an account with RHB for the top up feature lol.
