How to buy games from STEAM using CIMB Debit Card
Things you need to know before purchasing games from STEAM.
Do not make any top-up or purchase at 12am-7am.
This is because CIMB doesn’t detect your top-up at this hour and it will take them about 24hours to update your balance if you top-up/purchase during this hour . Trust me, I already went through it and ended with I had to spent more than I should to buy the stuff I want.
Check the current USD-MYR rates at Google.
Always add another RM3 more than current rate. Example current rate is RM3.02 per 1 USD. If total item is about RM50 then you need to add another RM3. Because sometimes bank charges differently.
Now onto How to buy games from STEAM using Cimb Debit Card
- Add into cart and choose purchase for myself or purchase as gift if you’re buying for someone else.
- Fill in the form like stated in your card. Address and name must be same like when you register your debit card. Payment method is Mastercard. You can choose to save payment information or not. For safety purpose I choose not to .
- Click on continue and it will take you into review window , click submit and if the amount in your card is enough the payment will be successful. If the amount you top-up is not enough, it will say that payment is rejected. All you need to do is top-up some more and submit again.
STEAM will send an e-mail containing link and key for the game you bought. If you put your friend e-mail, once paid an e-mail will be sent to your friend . And even if you choose your own e-mail, that e-mail then you can send to your friend/family members and they can activate it anywhere. The game you purchase as gift is not linked to the e-mail address.

Thanks a ton!!! I’m gonna try it as soon as I got my CIMB debit
ur welcome. nice blog btw
first of all thanks for this all this awesome e master card tutorial.
i successfully top up my steam wallet doing all the steps you provided here.
At first i just wanna give a try by applying online. There is some funnies issues thought like i got a scanner but the usb cable is gone and then i grab my brother camera and snap my ic photo. Then i make it grayscale so it would look like it came from scanner lol. After completed all the form then i compressed it in zip archive together with the ic picture and submit with finger crossed.
To my surprise they actually send my card today after about 2 weeks(almost forgot about it since they never reply in my email telling they processed the form).
Next thing is i gave them a phone call for activation and they say i need to transfer fund for immediate activation. Then i used then transfer to other account method and deposited rm150.
Next i linked my card followed by e secure payment registration so i can do the online transaction such as steam. i purchase my steam game in the same day i got my card. XD
thanks dungun.net!
lolololol.. brilliant la u. i should have grayscaled mine as well. Didn’t even consider it back then when they rejected mine lolol..
glad to know that my guide here is useful to fellow gamers ;D

Hi,
This tutorial did not work from my Debit Card. When I asked the cimb bank officials, they said a debit card is meant only for physical purchases not online transactions. Is that true ? Are you sure your’s is a debit card and not a e-mastercard or a credit card ??
Thank you
mine is debit card with mastercard on it. so yes it’s a debit card since i need to top-up it with funds before buying anything.
Which debit card are you using? the card i’m using is currently no longer available.
Does CIMB debit card still can be used on steam store??
yes I have just bought tropico 4 with it
Hey…I tried to make payment using my CIMB Debit Card (the one with MasterCard logo on it) & it didn’t work. The error message says:
“Your purchase has not been completed. Your credit card information has been declined by your credit card company.
Note that in some cases, your credit card company may put a ‘hold’ on funds in your account, but you will not be charged. After correcting any errors in the information displayed below, please try your purchase again.”
Please help me out. Thanks.
you’re using the new ATM cimb debit card or the old cimb e. mastercard?
